Security at Medupi Power Station, South Africa
The Medupi Power station, South Africa, is the largest dry-cooled coal fired power station in the world. It generates 4,800 MW and the site covers 883 ha. Security at the site is vital for the safety of the plant and the employees that work there. Several security systems were evaluated, with Navtech AdvanceGuard proving to be the best option. The solution consists of five Navtech AdvanceGuard radar sensors that continually monitor the site in all weathers and light levels. AdvanceGuard detects, tracks and identifies potential threats and records the information to its database. When an alarm is raised, the system automatically positions the cameras to provide complete situational awareness to the operators, that enables an immediate response to be deployed.
