Critical Area Surveillance – Bristol Airport

Security at Bristol aiport

Bristol AirportReaching a balance between high level movement restrictions and making Bristol Airport a welcoming experience for the passengers has been an interesting challenge for Chris Ware, Head of Security. The result is that the airport has implemented one of the world’s most sophisticated surveillance and security technology systems.

Bristol Airport has undergone major improvements since March 2010, including an £8M project which was finalised with the opening of a 450M (1,480 ft.) walkway that connects the terminal building to eight new pre-boarding zones. In July 2012 passenger numbers topped 650,000 making it the busiest July on record and with new services commencing later in 2012 it is hoped that passenger numbers will continue to increase.

The increase in passenger numbers also led to a redesign of the security infrastructure at a critical point which was in close proximity to an area of open ground. This area is used as an overflow car park during the summer months and is also adjacent to a local flying club.
